About Renewing Minds, Restoring Hope

No performance is required here.

If you’re on this page, chances are you’ve been carrying a lot.

You may be successful on paper, but exhausted inside. You might be managing anxiety, anger, sadness, or burnout while still showing up for work, family, and everyone who depends on you.

In a world that moves fast and demands constant strength, it’s easy to lose touch with yourself and even harder to find a space that feels safe enough to slow down.

Therapy here isn’t about fixing you. It’s about giving you room to breathe.

What happens in therapy?

When you become a client at Renewing Minds, Restoring Hope, one of the first surprises many people notice is how relieved they feel.

You’re not rushed, talked at, or expected to have the “right” words. Sessions feel grounded, intentional, and human. We will talk, yes, but we will also pause, reflect, notice patterns, and gently work with what shows up in real time.

Over time, therapy becomes less about crisis management and more about clarity. You begin to understand why certain situations trigger you, why your body reacts the way it does, and how old experiences may still be shaping your present. You learn skills to regulate your emotions, set boundaries without guilt, and respond instead of react. For many clients, this work also includes EMDR, which allows healing to happen beyond words, helping the mind and body finally release what they’ve been holding.

Being a client here over several months means building trust, momentum, and insight. It means noticing that you’re sleeping better, thinking more clearly, or handling situations that once felt overwhelming with more steadiness. It means learning that healing isn’t linear and it is possible.

Our approach benefits people living in the modern world.

A world where stress is constant, expectations are high, and rest is often treated like a reward instead of a necessity.

Especially for Black women and women of color, these pressures can be layered with systemic stress, generational roles, and the unspoken rule to always be strong. Our work acknowledges that reality offers something different: care that is culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and rooted in compassion.

If you’ve been looking for therapy that feels both supportive and effective, this may be the space you’ve been searching for.

About Tara Riley, DSW, LCSW

Healing should feel human.

As the creator of Renewing Minds, Restoring Hope, I believe that any therapeutic approach should take into consideration the human experience, including joys, sorrows, and doubts, as we navigate this life.

My mission is simple but deeply personal: to help people – especially Black women – find relief, clarity, and peace in a world that rarely slows down for them.

I’ve spent over two decades in social work, including criminal justice, clinical practice, supervision, and leadership. Along the way, I’ve seen how often people are expected to survive without support.

I bring my full self into this work.

Training, experience, and heart guide my approach.

I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and hold a Doctorate in Social Work, with advanced training in trauma-informed care and EMDR.

But more than my credentials, I bring my calm presence, honesty, and the ability to hold both compassion and accountability in the same space.

Outside of the therapy room…

I value connection, reflection, and moments of joy. I believe healing happens not just in sessions, but in how we live, rest, and relate to one another.

If you’re considering therapy, I want you to know this: you don’t have to do this alone – and you don’t have to become someone else to heal. You get to be exactly who you are.
